Hi there, folks! Welcome to APAGear II, Volume 1, Number 12.

That's right, we've jumped on to the bandwagon, too! APAGear 2K! Woohoo! Pretty sweet sounding, huh?
One bandwagon on which I won't jump, however, is the one where I announce that this issue is the last issue of the millennium.
See, the current calendar used by much of the high-tech portion of this planet has this year as 1999 AD (or, if you prefer [and I do] CE for Common Era, which leaves religion out of the issue), and next year as 2000 CE. But guess what, kiddos: This calendar lacks a Zero Anno Domini. It started on 1 AD, not 0 AD. That means the first millennium ended on December 31, 1000, not December 31 999. That also means this current millennium (the second under the common calendar) ends next year.
So this issue of APAGear is the final issue of APAGear for the penultimate year of the millennium. Not as dramatic sounding, true, but at least it's more accurate.
(The extreme of inaccuracy on the subject, I think, was reached by CNN when they announced their up-to-the-minute coverage of Y2K bug-related problems, a special feature that they're calling "Millennium 2000." By my reckoning, they have almost two million years to wait for Millennium 2000.)
Anyway, it's been a full year of APAGear, and I'm quite pleased with the overall results. Huzzah and kudos to the members of the APA. Nice work, folks. Let's keep it up into the next year, eh?
Which leads me to the following announcement: We'll be skipping issue 13, or Volume 2, Number 1, or the January, 2000 issue. No, we're not playing it safe -- but since this issue is so...sparse...and so...late, I wanted to give the members some time to take a break. To keep things together for the February, 2000 issue of APAGear, we're going to have another thematic issue. The theme will be, "How I Spent My (Terranovan) Winter Vacation."
