APAGear II

Late delivery from Paxton Arms

Mika Peltola

Paxton Arms has produced many different gears along the years, among them are some success stories and some failures, and those in-between. In following text are describe two variants of Pit Bull law enforcement gear and one scratch built scout gear, from days of the War of the Alliance.

PA-SEC-03 Doberman

Overview

In TN1921 PaxSec requested board for new gear specially tailored for PaxSec use, due the increased internal and external threats. Doberman project was approved in spring TN1922. And Scant cycle later first prototype of PA-SEC-03 "Doberman" was completed at Peace River R&D compound. Outwardly Doberman is designed to look identical to the standard POCs Pit Bull. But its systems and performance has been improved across the board. For example the advanced fire control system is almost identical to one in Warrior IV, a new actuator design and more powerful engine allowed a slight boost in walker speed. Also an additional backup communnication system and ECCM suite were added along with some new defensive measures, like emergency medical system and new laminated armor which increased vehicles survivability versus HEAT based weapons, like infantry rocket launchers. For sake of simplicity and compatability, the original Pit Bull armaments were retained. A new 840-series V-engine proved to be quite fuel hungry, hence the lower practical deployment range.

Service Record

The final version of the Doberman design entered service in TN1926, and has been the mainstay gear of PaxSec eversince. Althought the nature of PaxSec organization, and their priorities make the deployment of gears is a rare event indeed. Mostly this happens only when PaxSex moves for a all-out offensive, like the anti-BRF campaign in TN1935 or while PaxSec is bodyguarding VIPs (or executive tower). Recently (Summer-TN1936) the Peace Officer Corps SWOS has deployed six Dobermans as command units for SWOS gear squadrons, with great success. This can be attributed to the ECCM array, which is used to counter the possible ECM by the enemy.

PA-03 Bloodhound

Overview and History

Bloodhound was Paxton Arms response to post-War of the Alliance increase in rover activity. Bloodhound is an attempt to create gear with best qualities of both Warrior and Pit Bull, but commercially it was written off as a failure. As being not a real military gear, it saw no military action, and being far too heavily armed for law enforcement use in cities. Bloodhounds electronics were stripped down to same level of complexity as in the warrior, and the rear mounted APGL was replaced with fixed-forward mounted RP-77V rocket pod, to provide extra firepower in a pinch, also Pit Bulls autocannon was changed to Paxton Arms 30mm Rifle. Althought Bloodhound is cheaper gear than Pit Bull, and even somewhat better armored. It never really gained the same popularity as the Pit Bull. As for being a true underdog among the Paxton gear designs, it cannot even be found on Paxton Arms catalogue anymore (TN1936).

Service Record

The first Bloodhound rolled out from Paxton Arms line #3 in 4th of Summer TN1918, and production was continued until TN1925 when the Bloodhound line was cancelled as unfrofitable. Luckily for the owners of the Bloodhound, it can be easily repaired with parts of Pit Bull and Warrior. The Bloodhound has become a sought-after bounty-hunting gear, as it pack enough punch to take on a rovers (even those with gears), and is quite cheap to repair. Several Bloodhounds have found their home in Khayr Ad-Din middle rank dueling arenas. As Bloodhound is fairly easy to modify, cheap and quite maneuverable. Lately (TN1936) there has been rumors of Paxton restarting the Bloodhound production and/or creation of Bloodhound II, as the world is again at brink of the war. As a precaution of an post-war rover problem. Bloodhound II is said to be similar full upgrade over Bloodhound as the Warrior IV is over Warrior.

PA-03-SCT Dingo Dog

Overview and History

Dingo Dog is a scratch built scout gear by marshal Antonio Beleza and mechanic Gordy Vicks built during the War of the Alliance out of two wrecked Pit Bulls and an upper torso of a Cheetah. The wrecks were supplied by professional "salvage experts", who scrounge battlefields for wrecks of gears & other military vehicles and other recycleable materials. The Dingo was built at Vicks carage in Fort Neil at TN1914, after marshall Beleza lost his gear and most of his deputies (he barely escaped with his own life, at the time) in brief battle with CEF scout troop.

Despite fact that Dingo Dog is a patchwork mess, it performs surprisingly well as a scout & forward observer. Most work involved in creation Dingo dog was tinkering electronics and suspension, both which are after all these modifications very poorly protected. Due the great space requirement of the Cheetahs ECM array one has to be gymnast to get inside, and the gear turns into a death trap in case catches fire and you must bail out. Pilot knows this and goes to quite a lenghts to avoid tackling enemies with incediary weapons (especially those CEF aerosol flamethrowers). Also the characteristic torso machinegun was omitted along with the rear facing grenade launcher which was replaced by ten shot smoke launcher. Also dingo features an arm mounted target designator (also from Cheetah). The Dingos improved off road suspension makes the motive system quite supectible to damage, but it also gives Dingo an excellent off-road speed (essential for scout unit). The slightly increased mass of Dingo also manifests in slightly lower SMS speed. The maintenance requirements of the Dingo are simply said outrageous, as the ECM system would be complex thing to maintain by itself, and the scratch-built nature installation does not make thing any easier.
