Notes | |
The M1E9 RBAPLF Abrams was developed by BCW in TN 1933, in response to a call from a Mekong Peacekeeper unit near Olduvai for a heavily-armored multipurpose tank*. Banzaidyne has had considerable success with their reproductions of the 20th-century M1A2 Abrams main battle tank, currently in service with the Coronado Defense Forces' 23rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and BCW used this proven design as the basis for this project.
The fitting of a large ram plate to the front of the tank body and the necessary strengthening of the chassis were the only changes to the tank's hull. The turret, however, was substantially modified. To make room for the additional weapons, the standard smoke launchers were moved forward to the turret front, and the storage bustles on the turret sides were replaced with weapon/ammunition compartments. A autoloading M29A5 81mm mortar is fitted to the left of the turret, while a four-tube box launcher for Hammerstrike-II antiarmor missiles is fitted on the right. These modifications give the M1E9's turret a boxy, brutish appearance. Field trials were conducted by the Olduvai Precinct of the Mekong Peackeepers between 38 Summer TN 1933 and 9 Summer TN 1934. The Peacekeepers were quite pleased with the design overall, but did ask for some modifications.
